Our Statement of Faith
At Calvary Baptist Church, we hold firmly to the fundamental truths of the Christian faith as revealed in the Holy Scriptures. The following statements represent our core doctrinal beliefs.
We believe that the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are verbally and plenary inspired and serve as the final authority for faith and practice. The King James Version is designated as our official translation.
We believe that one eternal God exists in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - each coequal in nature, power, and glory with identical attributes.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who became human without ceasing to be divine. His death on the cross provides vicarious, substitutionary atonement, with justification secured through His literal physical resurrection.
We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, effects regeneration, indwells believers, and distributes spiritual gifts. Sign gifts like speaking in tongues were temporary and are not necessary evidence of Spirit-filling.
All men are born sinners by nature and by actions and are condemned already, needing redemption.
We believe that salvation is received only by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as a free gift, not earned through human merit or works. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God." (Ephesians 2:8)
We believe that believers, once saved, are kept by God's power and are thus secure in Christ forever. Nothing can separate the true believer from the love of God.
We believe that the true church comprises only regenerated believers and operates with local church autonomy, recognizing baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper as ordinances.
Christians are to remain unspotted from the world, holy, separate from sinful living and worldly corruption.
We believe Christ will return for his church and we will meet him in the air before the Great Tribulation.
The Lord Jesus will rule and reign forever in the New Heavens and New Earth. The believers will rule with him, unbelievers will be cast into eternal torment in the Lake of Fire.
We believe the universe was created by God in six literal 24-hour days as recorded in Genesis. We reject evolution and related theories as unscriptural.
